Meet Dear Lovers Films
Hello everyone! My name is Jaime, I’m a San Diego native that grew up near the beach and spent countless hours daydreaming of sailing away or surfing until sunset. I find love in the simplicities of life, tea on the balcony, silent sunsets, disappearing footprints on the beach, and 2-foot summer waves. San Diego will be my forever home and I am always so grateful for all the inspiration it continues to offer.
At heart, I have always been drawn to stories driven by the purest energy, love. I am fascinated by the beautiful storytelling from filmmakers and their way of evoking emotions out of visuals. This fixation for storytelling is the root of all my art and continually drives me to bring couples films that illustrate their love story.
Why Love Stories
I am extremely passionate about capturing my couples’ love and taking in every detail of their day. I make films so that they can relive their moments forever and share those moments with their close friends and family.
The most wonderful part of filming a wedding is the uniqueness of each couple’s love for one another, details, and traditions. One of my favorite and most anticipated moments for each wedding is the first look — once our couples’ eyes lock, all the anticipation and nervous energy fades away.
One of my favorite first look scenes I’ve captured is from Jacklyn and Blake’s Lake Como, Italy wedding. Their love is so pure and the backdrop they chose for their celebration is simply gorgeous. In the background, the Villa D’este, a beautiful and elegant hotel, runs along the banks of Lake Como. One day here will leave you absolutely speechless.
“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” ~ When Harry Met Sally
Golden hour portraits create some of the most stunning imagery and scenes from the day. It is a wonderful way to enjoy your moments, embrace each other, reflect on the past, and look forward to all the memories you will make together, all while enjoying warm sunshine.
One of my favorite golden hour scenes was from Grace and Christopher’s wedding at The Martin Johnson House in La Jolla. During their cocktail hour, we managed to pull them away for an intimate golden hour session. We took them to a row of lavender fields on the cliffs, featuring the stunning La Jolla Shores in the background.
Collaboration with Dear Lovers Photographers
Capturing a wedding with our two teams, Andrew & Anna and Dani & James, is always so rewarding. We constantly collaborate and strive for new ways to illustrate and capture our couples. Filming love with the Dear Lovers photography teams allows us to collaborate during the wedding day and beyond. During our couples’ days, we collaborate on locations, poses, and ways to bring beautiful and timeless galleries. After the wedding, I work closely with our photography teams to truly match the tones and colors from the films scans and create one seamless product.
What it’s like to work with me
I work hard to bring my couples unique films and capture the love they share not only with each other, but also with their friends and family. I work closely with all of my couples before and during the wedding to make sure that the heart of their film is their love story. Throughout the wedding day, I capture the natural beauty of every moment and allow your love to speak for itself in the most organic and romantic fashion. If you are interested in chatting, I would absolutely love to grab coffee and bring your story to life.

Hi all, Dani here! This past summer, James and I had the pleasure of photographing Lisa & Julien’s gorgeous seaside wedding at Hacienda Loma, a private estate in the heart of Sunset Cliffs. Planned by the amazing Karina of Couture Events, their ceremony and reception was adorned in luminous white florals, lemons galore, and the sweetest hints of coastal blue tones! The entire lush venue was transformed into an elegant and summery space, with views of the Pacific Ocean and a warm, sunshine-filled atmosphere.
The bride wore a classic, fitted gown, with whimsical lace details in the bodice. Her bridesmaids wore blue gowns which flowed beautifully in the coastal breeze. The groom was dressed in a grey linen tux, with a blue ribbon-wrapped boutonniere. The groomsmen donned classic black suits. The bouquets and florals, so beautifully designed by Posies Flowers, were spread throughout the Hacienda and paired with lush greens. All of their components complimented each other so nicely, with a summery seaside color palette.
We are so thankful to have captured such an incredibly sweet couple, with so much love for each other and the people who surrounded them. We’ve never seen such a large, joyous dance party! Here’s to a lifetime of dancing, belly laughs, and lots of love.

We love engagement sessions, and you should too! If you’re still on the fence about getting one read this blog post from last year! But let’s assume for a minute that you have already booked a session(or won one!) and now you are wanting to know what’s next.
Here are the items we focus on to ensure that every engagement photo we take turns out beautifully. Whether you’re a photographer or engaged couple follow these simple tips to better engagement photos!
1. Choose the right outfits!
I know this sounds like a “duh” item but it’s actually not. Before every engagement session we always send our couples a mood board. This board shows examples of what looks good together. Some things to avoid are bright colors or patterns. For instance as much as that vibrant maroon dress might be your favorite, it might not work the best! Now many factors can play into this, the location you choose is a big one. If the location has very neutral tones you might be able to incorporate some deep tones. But many times we encourage couples to play it safe and choose softer tones. The main reason behind this is to make sure the focus of each image remains on you two and not an item of clothing!
2. Choose the right location at the right time of day.
Now this is always one of the first questions we get from a couple who books a session with us. How do we choose a location? Often times we ask if they have a preference for type of location: Beach, Architectural, or Woodsy. From there we can recommend a number of locations that fit those vibes. The other thing we always ask is if there is anywhere that is sentimental to them. This is important because that location can make the photos all the more special. Once you have a location picked out make sure to pick the right time of day. We usually start our sessions around 1 1/2 hours before sunset. That way the light is super soft towards the end of the session. This number will also change depending on if the location is in a valley where the sun will set earlier. Or if it is a beach session we will start an hour before sunset.
3. Hire someone who can direct you on posing while keeping the shoot fun and easy!
This is specifically for couples. The number one stressor of couples before the session is the fear of looking awkward. Our number one recommendation for this is to hire a photographer you fully trust! That photographer will help you be relaxed in front of the camera and teach you to focus on each other! For us, we are very hands on during our sessions, while also keeping the mood light and fun. This helps couples relax knowing that every detail is being cared for while not having to worry.
4. Modeling tips!
1. Try not to break focus & pose. Whenever you find that perfect pose try to stay in it until your photographer tells you to do the next pose. This is crucial! This allows your photographer to capture different details of that moment.
2. Use soft hands. When embracing each other always keep your hands super soft and loose. This keeps your embraces romantic and elegant!
3. Shift your weight around. A curved back ads movement and beauty to you ladies! And leaning on one leg or the other makes you fellows look more relaxed and comfortable in front of the lens.
5. Have a bit of fun!
Remember why you are there taking photos, you’re with the one you love and you’re getting married! So smile, hug, run, dance, just be alive together and forget the camera!
